John has over thirty years of experience in intellectual property including preparation and prosecution of patents and trademarks, patent opinions pertaining to patentability, non-infringement/infringement, and invalidity as well as IP due diligence. His patent prosecution experience spans a wide range of mechanical, electromechanical, electrical, and computer-implemented technologies including medical devices, medical device localization and navigation systems, computer network analytics and management systems including natural language interfaces, vehicle battery charging systems, various automotive components and subsystems such as vehicle lighting configurations, fuel rails, fuel sensors, on-board diagnostics, and ignition coils, as well as ladders and other inventory access devices.
Before joining Reising, John held various management positions at a national law firm including Practice Group Leader of the IP Group and Leader of the IP Transactional Practice. These roles provided him with valuable insight into aspects of the practice, especially those from the clients’ perspective.
Prior to law school, John worked at Michigan Bell Telephone Company in their network engineering department focusing on digital and analog data services.
John graduated cum laude from Oakland University with a B.S.E in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. He received his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School. John is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
