Corey Beaubien attended Design Day 2013 at the U.S. Patent Office in Alexandria on April 23. The conference brought together attorneys, examiners, and industrial designers to discuss the state of design patent law in the U.S. and around the world. Presentations included the written description requirement under 35 USC 112 following the In re Owens decision, U.S. implementation of the Hague Agreement, protecting icons and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) via design patents, and the role of design patents in the Apple v. Samsung litigation.
