Shareholder
Michael provides counsel to many of our clients in the procurement, evaluation, and enforcement of patents and trademarks. His fields of expertise include electrical, electro-mechanical, and software-related technologies. In his fifteen years of practicing IP law, he has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a wide variety of fields, including hybrid and electric vehicle systems, spark plugs, laser welding, autonomous vehicle systems, metal fabrication, vehicle telemetry, precious metal alloys, sound-damping laminates, wiring harnesses, and vehicle power distribution devices.
Michael has extensive experience managing large and complex patent portfolios, as well as monitoring those of competitors. He makes regular trips to the U.S. Patent Office to conduct personal interviews with examiners across a wide range of disciplines. His nearly twenty years at our firm are also complemented by his engineering experience with automotive parts manufacturer Delphi Corporation. He has been named a “Rising Star” by Michigan Super Lawyers® and an “IP Star” by the magazine Managing Intellectual Property. In addition, Michael has served on the firm’s Management Committee as vice president in charge of personnel.
Michael graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan with a degree in electrical engineering and also finished cum laude at Wayne State University Law School. He has been a member of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association, the Michigan Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, and he is admitted to practice law in Michigan and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
